Three things to know about black fungus:
Since it is rhino orbit cerebral mucormycosis, it starts with the nose and goes onto the eye. Nasal discharge which is black in color and foul-smelling is the main symptom. Other symptoms include cold, fever, black patches on the palette, bulging of the eye, double vision, blurred vision, drooping of the upper eyelid, giddiness, and brain complications.
Early ENT and ophthalmology check-up is necessary for the precaution.
Black Fungus is a very serious condition with 15% mortality. Hence it is extremely important to diagnose early and start the treatment immediately.
Myth is that any person having redness in eye has black fungus. Only the patients with reduced immunity can have black fungus. Also, black fungus is an opportunistic infection. Mucus is seen everywhere, but only if the patient has reduced immunity it is possible to have black fungus.
